“SINGING MY VICTORY SONG”

Della Spearman

Going to do the Lord’s battle today

Taking my buckler, sword and shield,

Armed with my worship odes and poems,

There’s an arsenal of inspiring praise songs.

I’m looking at Jehosophat as my guide,

And I’m stretching out on obedient faith

ARE YOU A MARTHA or a MARY? Lent Devotion #38

Tom Groomes

SCRIPTURE: Luke 10: 38-40  Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”(NKJV)
DEVOTION: I arose at 5:45 a.m. that July Sunday morning, feeling the beauty of a new day. The ground was wet with heavy dew; the sun was beginning to warm the day. The birds sang as if they too were praising our Lord for his marvelous creation of this earth.

DEVOTION: Recently a friend of mine told me when her grandson came home from preschool he told her he’d had a “sad day.” Not knowing what he meant by this, she questioned him further. He finally told her (more…)

FAITH THROWN OVERBOARD
PHILIP LETIZIA

Many people who hear the word faith feel the bitter cold rush of uneasiness creep up their spine. How can so many people be sure about things? they ask. How can they claim to have a better grasp on all of this than I do?
Faith is certainty to many. Unwavering. Commitment. Belief in something no one can see, and no one can feel. How can you be sure?
Those who believe, those who hold tight to faith or a certainty in things not quite understood, still have room for uncertainty, for doubt, and for questions. Yes, the uncertainty is still there. The lie we’ve bought and sold, the lie told to those of us who are less certain, the lie that we can never be allowed to see, is (more…)

DEFINING GOD

—written by Joe F. Stierheim

For thousands of years man has believed in a deity (or deities). The beliefs have taken many forms but all have hinged on one concept and that is that man can successfully define God. Before one can worship any entity, one must decide of what that entity consists. The first definitions were probably of obvious things—a tree, a mountain, the sun. They could have been natural phenomena, perhaps storms or earthquakes.

When man began to conceive of God as being less a physical object or phenomenon and something that is more ethereal such as an intelligence or source, definition got trickier. That didn’t stop man. He poured his (more…)
