HALFWAY THROUGH TOMORROW

Kathleen Clark

There’s always going to be pain

                        something quirky and insane

                                    about life.

Halfway through yesterday

I found myself flying head first into tomorrow,

            trying to outdistance (more…)

OH SO RADIO SHOW!

Kathleen Clark

Before the invention of black and white television, family entertainment meant gathering around the Philco radio in the corner of the living room. Raptly glued to the lively performances of favorite entertainers, audiences of all ages were kept spellbound.

One of the most popular and long-running music radio programs, the Grand Ole Opry, was the creation of station manager, George Dewey Hay. Begun in 1925, it was originally billed as (more…)

SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL

Katheen

As we enter the first of year 2009, let us remember that we should “shake, rattle and roll.” Pledge to make a difference in the coming year!

            On a frigid winter morning
            dad, in plaid flannel bathrobe
            headed to the basement
where ashes from the coal furnace
had settled into a gray nest.
The slender iron poker, precisely (more…)

 KATHLEEN

Fluttering and cooing the Mourning Doves chased each other back and forth across my balcony porch. They made such a commotion I began watching them in earnest. Mating season was in full swing! Cocoa, my Chocolate Lab, sniffed suspiciously at the inert object, then playfully nudged it with her paw. Her persistent yaps caused me to look out the kitchen window.

“What the heck?” I wiped my hands on my jeans, let the screen door bang, and went to investigate. What appeared to be pieces of (more…)
