TESTIMONY OF A RICH MISER

Ernest Williamson III

though you loved me
in the inner sanctum
of wayward kisses
moist yet dry
taken yet remiss
alone the yellow brick road
gold
silver
leading hope
to
febrile
gritting of bone
to worm food
but no divorce

yet inwardly
I’m ashamed
because of my success
my effortless aims
winning and waxing
again and again
tucked in down
bred with fine blood
specks of old
red wine
though musty
compressed
in an urn
sinking
from mountain
to shackle
to snare
to tomb
but nevertheless
I’m staying
with or without
you
