STRAND OF OLD GLORY

Ernest Williamson III

poison runs in my veins
the dendrites are whacked
shredded before the Lord
and thrown into a celestial bonfire
my faith has mocked it’s shadow
death curtails the gift of life
with unselfish lies
laying and lying
is all we do
now
and
I am
now
confused
as
later days wane with blood
in the meadows of judgment
I tremble
with knowledge
about the future
because of its
snapshot
of wanton evidence
sands of sins
of me
myself
and
eyes of far too many
waterless creeks
in fountainless
pennies
