DAVID Part 10 of a 10 Part Romance Story

Jane

This is Part 10 of a ten-part romance story, David. Each Wednesday evening a part of the story is being posted.  Writer Jane is a long-distance member of the Beanery Writers Group, participating via the Beanery Online Literary Magazine.      The days flew by for us, and I have to admit it was much better spending my time with David than it was at work. Most of the time I stayed the night at my “suite” at his home, rather than the long drive home. Who am I kidding! It wasn’t the drive home that kept me there.

With “The Event of the Century” under control, and with me confident that our guests would be well taken care of there was a little more time to relax and just enjoy the approaching winter. There was also the Thanksgiving feast to prepare for. David’s mother would be coming up from Texas to prepare the meal. This was her tradition and I didn’t mind one bit not having that to contend with.

Every morning we would take his two dogs out running, and usually go to the stables down the hill at the back of the house. He kept a black stallion named Satan in there, and we would let Satan out to walk, and later run. Sometimes David rode him. I would watch and my breath would catch in my throat. What a beautiful site it was.

As Thanksgiving neared, his family began to arrive and the house became full of sounds. The kitchen more often than not was the meeting place in their morning, and everyone would discuss (more…)

WTF: THE CHURCH JANITOR AND THE PIGEONS
Dmitri

I took a joke I heard, which did not include WTFs, and created a story that did include WTFs.

A priest noticed many pigeons which were living on the fine cathedral he so fervently loved—pigeons which were, well…. doing what pigeons do. The priest exclaimed WTF (Were These Feathers) those of angels I would not mind their presence here. So he asked the janitor to solve the problem. The janitor said WTF (Wings That Flap) shall no more flap and crap upon your blessed roof!
The Janitor climbed high to the very tip of the steeple, where he placed the image of an (more…)

A BEANERY WRITERS GROUP STORY IN PHOTOGRAPHS

Dmitri

As the facilitator of the Beanery Writers Group, I’m often asked What goes on at the meetings? Dmitri, who had recently acquired a new camera, captured the essence of one meeting—by arranging some of his pictures to demonstrate what happens when there is a disagreement between members.

Well everything was going fine, until a point of dispute arose…

LOST IN MY PASTA

Mark Sliwa

We did the unthinkable. My wife and I showed up without a reservation at a popular restaurant at five minutes before seven on a Saturday night. Now everybody knows that 7:00 pm is the witching hour of chaos at any dining establishment on a weekend evening.

The destination was Turillo’s Steak House on top of the mountain and the weather was poor. Snow, ice, and a blanket of fog guided the way to the summit. I had selfish thoughts that less people would be on the road, meaning upon our arrival for dinner we would be treated as unexpected royalty; or at least as royal as the small mountain village of Jennerstown would allow.

Pulling up to the restaurant, I spied human shadows against the windows by the front entrance. Didn’t these people know we were coming? How dare they!

Nonetheless, we were prepared. Anticipating the clogged cattle stall in the lobby, we brought (more…)
