HAPPY FREAKIN’ VALENTINE’S DAY!

Kandace

Kandace submitted this response to the weekly prompt:

Write a story based on this plot: Mailed Valentine never delivered.

February 14. What a miserable day!

Gray, slush, ice, mud and frigid, howling winds. Lovely.

The one bright spot—the anticipation of a Valentine from my Knight in Shining Armor, and the promise of a romantic evening.

Icy patches made the hike to the mailbox a bit treacherous—Slip sliding away, slip sliding away. You know the nearer your destination, the more you slip sliding away. Hmm hmmm hmmm….

Little did I know how true that was. Eagerly, I opened the mailbox and nothing. No bills, thank you God, but no mail at all. It is empty. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Okay, what do I do with this? Get angry? Cry? Leave him a message full of expletives?

Wait, I know! A gust of wind blew it out of Old Postman Joeʼs hand just as he had to grasp his hat. Thatʼs it! It was propelled into the stream and is now heading toward the Loyalhanna, to become a summer discovery for a child catching crayfish.

Yeah, and then I woke up.

It seems this Princess, surrounded by a muddy moat, hooked up with an idiot wrapped in tin foil and full of wind like the day itself.

The wind roars and so do I: Happy Freakinʼ Valentineʼs Day!
