BEANERY WRITERS GROUP MEETINGS

The BWG meets the second and fourth Fridays each month, 1:00-3:00 p.m, in the back room at the Coffee Bean Café in Latrobe (they opened a second Coffee Bean Café on Rt. 30 in Greensburg by Office Max—wrong site!). Some members come early to socialize over coffee or lunch. New members—or visitors (including writers who are visiting the area from out of town)—are welcome to join us. Our members are eclectic: they write in all genres!

The BOLM (www.beanerywriters.wordpress.com) accepts submissions (in any genre) from guest writers. Items may be edited, but if there are any significant changes your work will be returned to you for your approval. STUDENT POETRY CONTEST

Deadline March 19, 2010

Cash prizes will be awarded at all grade levels in different forms of poetry. Thirty cash awards will be handed out (first, second, and third prizes in each of nine categories, plus the McGough Awards for the three best poems overall).

Winners will receive a booklet of all the winning poems.

 ONE-ACT PLAYWRIGHTING COMPETITION

The Frostburg State University Center for Creative Writing

Deadline: April 1, 2010

Writers are encouraged to submit their one act plays (running time of 40-minutes or less) first annual competition to showcase new works. All entries will be judged on plot, character development, dialogue and overall quality.

First prize: $750 and production of their play at The Frostburg One-Act Playwriting Festival to be held on the FSU campus in September of 2010. 

Second prize: $250 and staged readings of their work

Third prize: $100, and staged readings of their work
