HALF-PAST

Erin York

The shadows br e  a th e that it’s

Half-past     noon again.

They whisper wisdom

From mouths with no teeth,

Hands {clapping} in               not-so-silent                      encore

Of the sun’s demise tonight (a melodrama with an expected ending).

When they f…a……d            ………e

From stark black on white pavement

To nothing more than

  (Fake) l

 i

 n

 e

 s on walls

The shadows br e  a the e.

Flitting in and out of focus,

(Like ghosts), the evening changes…

Darkness commands everything

In close-pressed air now and…

The shadows br e  a th e that it’s

Half-past             midnight again and

Time for a new theater production, a new genre. Horror?

The shadows la u gh,                       hungry!

  1. Very good Erin! The language is expressive, capture’s the essence of shadows and how they act – good metaphores – keep it up – kudos! Saying a lot in a little space is a real technique!
Check out some of my poems on the right column – BW Kathleen
