REVIEW OF LITERARY AGENT DR. UWE STENDER’S WORKSHOP

The following review of a PennWriters workshop was written by Annette Dashofy, I’m a yoga teacher who writes, striving to become a writer who teaches yoga. She lives in Burgettstown, PA. Four members of the Beanery Writers Group attended the meeting (view photo of Sal and Chuck sharing their work with Dr. Stender: http://www.flickr.com/photos/beaneryonlineliterarymagazine/3298270971/ ) held at the Monroeville Library on February 14, 2009. Presenter for the day was Dr. Uwe Stender, a Full Member of the AAR (Association of Authors’ Representatives) founded TriadaUS Literary Agency, Inc., which was incorporated in April 2004.

I spent this morning (and part of the early afternoon) at a Pennwriters Pittsburgh East Writers meeting where agent Uwe Stender gave a wonderful talk followed by an extensive Q & A. I can’t say that (more…)

AN OAK TREE MARKS THE PLACE

Tim Landy

In my front yard stands a large, hundred-year old white oak tree. Its branches reach more than thirty feet up and out to the sky and its roots anchor it deep into the rocky hillside. Each year, little by little, the tree grows, obeying its own ancient genetic script.

Sometimes I wonder what my life experiences would be like without this leafy friend. I watch countless (more…)

STOKING THE COALS

Pat

Think back to 1958. Do you remember the clunky coal furnace that lived in the basement?  I vividly remember when Dad announced, “We’re moving to Indiana, Pennsylvania. I purchased a large house for $6000!”  Dad had accepted the position of Chairman of the Music Department at Indiana State Teacher’s College, now IUP.
“We’ll have a large yard, lots of property, lovely roses, daffodils, walnut trees, and weeping willows,” Dad said with a wide grin on his face.  What Dad forgot or refused to mention was (more…)
