SING TO ME SOFTLY
Malaika King
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I remember when
You used to sing me to sleep
The softness of your words
Bouncing off the walls
And cascading me
With your voice
I remember when
You used to stroke my face
Telling me everything was all right
Even when it wasn’t
I remember when
You tried to stand up without waking me
And every time
I would sit up and watch you go
And every time
I heard your door click shut
I would lean back on my pillow
And cry
I remember when
Daddy left
