BELONGING TO JESUS Lent Devotion #7

Scripture: Romans 1:5-6 Through him and for his name’s sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. (NIV)
DEVOTION: Recently a friend of mine told me when her grandson came home from preschool he told her he’d had a “sad day.” Not knowing what he meant by this, she questioned him further. He finally told her he had a “sad day” because he didn’t obey his teacher and got in trouble.
I wonder how many of our days are “sad” because we don’t obey God’s word and get in trouble?
When we belong to Jesus Christ, we come to know God’s grace. This grace can bring us happiness as we grow to be obedient to God’s Word and trust in his forgiving care.
The Lenten season is time to look at our lives and increase our obedience through our faith. As the hymn says, “…there’s no way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
Prayer: Lord, help me to allow my faith to grow, so that obedience to your Word comes easier in my life. Thank you for calling me to belong to your Son, Jesus. Amen.
