work ends
time card marked
tired worker
steps fall
as he
walks home
problems at work
lean on him hard
problems with a young wife
lean on him hard
responsibility of a young daughter
leans on him hard
could he taken a different course?
he’s tired
muscles are sore
mind is troubled
as he walks
a tear forms in his eye
troubles soon forgotten
his mood lightens
the smile of a girl
curly hair
bouncing in the wind
as she runs
he smiles
he laughs
she jumps
his arms open
his daughter lands
in his arms
she smiles
he smiles
a happy tear
this time
falls from his eye
all troubles forgotten
nearly fifty years later
he’s alone
his will
and body
are broken
but all soon forgotten
another little girl runs
jumps into his arms
gives him a big hug
says “Pappy’s Here !”
