—written by Emily This poem was written when Emily was coping with
sexual abuse that occurred in her childhood.
I have a friend that no one knows
She’s always there to listen
She holds my hand and won’t let go
She even shares my visions
We cry together to deaf ears
It helps to ease our sorrows
and when we’re gripped tight by our fear
she promises tomorrow
She is innocent and precious
still there’s something that’s not right
Her little eyes, black and vicious
alone are the proof of her fright
In glimpses I see her nightmares
they’re too much for me to take
I crawl inside to hold her scared
and tell her that it’s okay
I realize in all of this
that it was me all along
trying to deal with tragedy
too young, and doing it wrong
